I’ve been in the web design industry for several years now and in that time I have had the wonderful opportunity to work with many clients and critique many web designs. Out of all of my reviews a single fact has emerged as the most important piece of advice for a
potential website owner: HIRE A PROFESSIONAL WEB DESIGNER TO DESIGN YOUR WEBSITE!
There have been
too many
instances of
business owners
or potential
business owners
that hire a
“friend” or a
“friend of a
friend” with no
professional
background in
the field. This
is one of the
biggest mistakes
that a business
can make. Why?
1. If web design
is not their
business, they
will lack the
knowledge,
expertise, and
desire to help
your realize a
successful
online campaign.
2. Web design is
likely not their
business so it
will not be a
major priority
for them to make
your website a
success.
Please don’t misunderstand what I’m saying. I’m not telling you to not give a web design newbie a fair shot, however, I’m telling you to make sure that the person you hire to design your website has a proven track record of success and/or a keen interest in the area of web design. I’m seen too many cases of business owners who pay “non-professionals” to design their website and several months down the road have nothing to show for it.
Just ask yourself this question: Would you hire a “non-professional” to perform a major operation such as heart surgery on you? I’m guessing that you wouldn’t put your life in the hands of someone
who lacks experience in the field.
Likewise, you should not put the life of your business in the hands of someone who doesn’t have any experience in marketing business online. Your website is an online extension of your business; therefore you want it to exude the attributes of your business: quality, professionalism, and modernity. So, when looking for someone to design your website, remember to always choose a professional.
